It aims to provide information about communicable diseases in Australia to inform and assist those with responsibility for communicable disease control in a wide variety of settings.
Issues published in 2012 include four quarterly reports.
Summary of issues for 2012
Issue 1 - March 2012 annual reports on Australia's national notifiable diseases, arboviral diseases and malaria, tuberculosis, and surveillance of antibiotic resistance in Neisseria gonorrhoeae in the WHO Western Pacific and South East Asia Regions, plus articles on an outbreak of Salmonella linked to a kebab shop; imported malaria in the Northern Territory; and adverse events following immunisation; and improving surveillance for acute hepatitis C, as well as revised guidelines on interferon-gamma release assays for detection of latent tuberculosis; and the regular quarterly data reports.Issue 2 - June 2012 annual reports on invasive pneumococcal disease in Australia, gonococcal surveillance and Creutztfeldt-Jakob disease, plus articles on an outbreak of malaria in the Torres Strait and surveillance of potential rabies exposure in travellers returning to South East Queensland as well as the regular quarterly data reports.
Issue 3 - September 2012 contains annual reports on foodborne disease in Australia, meningococcal surveillance, trachoma surveillance in Australia and the Australian Paediatric Surveillance Unit, plus articles on a review of strategies to enhance influenza vaccination for health care workers, measles with a possible long incubation period and a Salmonella outbreak related to eggs, as well as the strategic plan for control of tuberculosis in Australia and the regular quarterly data reports.
Issue 4 - December 2012 contains an annual report on surveillance of adverse events following immunisation in Australia, a peer-reviewed article on the changing epidemiology of bloodstream infection pathogens, a short report on a decision support tool for vectorborne disease in Queensland, as well as the regular quarterly data reports.
