Communicable Diseases Intelligence (CDI) is a quarterly publication of the Surveillance Branch, Office of Health Protection, Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing. It aims to provide information about communicable diseases in Australia to inform and assist those with responsibility for communicable disease control in a wide variety of settings.

Issued published in 2007 include the four quarterly reports plus the biennial supplement on vaccine preventable diseases which is produced by the National Centre for Immunisation Research of Vaccine Preventable Diseases in collaboration with the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare on behalf of the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.

Summary of issues for 2007

Issue 1 - March 2007 contains annual reports on Australia's notifiable diseases surveilance system (2005); tuberculosis notifications and bacteriologically confirmed cases and drug resistance (2005) and invasive pneumococcal disease (2005). Articles included reports on antimicrobial resistances in common pathogenic Enterobacteriaceae; public health management of increased incidence of meningococcal disease in the Australian Capital Territory; large outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium phage type 135 associated with raw eggs and syphilis in remote north Queensland.

Issue 2 - June 2007 contains annual reports on influenza, meningococcal disease and gonococcal infections surveillance, plus articles on pertussis, Leptospira weilii, Q fever and meningococcal, as well as the regular quarterly data reports.

Supplement - June 2007 - Vaccine Preventable Diseases and Vaccination Coverage in Australia, 2003 to 2005.

Issue 3 - September 2007 contains annual reports on poliovirus and adverse events following immunisation, plus articles on Staphylococcus aureus, pneumonia, Escherichia coli and varicella-zoster, as well as the regular quarterly data reports.

Issue 4 - December 2007 contains annual reports on foodborne illness (OzFoodNet), rotavirus, trachoma surveillance and adverse events following immunisation summary update, plus articles on Staphylococcus aureus, influenza, tuberculosis information papers and pertussis, as well as the regular quarterly data reports.
