The Implementation Plan was released in 2015 and takes forward the overarching vision of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Plan 2013-2023 by progressing strategies and actions that improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Work has commenced to develop the next iteration of the Implementation Plan (2020-2023). The Implementation Plan Advisory Group (IPAG) has established the Implementation Plan Working Group (IPWG) to progress this work. The IPWG comprised of Indigenous Health experts, including representatives from the ACCHS. The IPWG is working closely with the Department of Health to steer the policy direction of the IP and ensure that it is centred on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives.

The cultural determinants and social determinants of health will set the foundations for the next iteration of the Implementation Plan and is being guided by the Closing the Gap refresh and the Australian Government Report ‘My Life My Lead’, Opportunities for Strengthening approaches to the social determinants and cultural determinants of health, report on national consultations, December 2017. The next iteration of the Implementation Plan is expected to be finalised by mid-2020.
