Figure 2 shows ASPREN swab testing results from 1 January to 31 March 2016 by week of report. Viruses monitored are as follows: influenza A, influenza B, respiratory syncytial virus, parainfluenza virus type 1, 2 and 3, adenovirus, rhinovirus, metapneumovirus, Mycoplasma pneumonaie, and pertussis. Data are presented as proportion positivity of all swabs tested. • Influenza positivity peaks occurred during the interseasonal period during week 12 (week ending 27/3/2016). This represents a small sample of tests undertaken during this period. • Rhinovirus was the most commonly detected respiratory virus (10.2% of all tests performed) peaking in weeks 9, 10 and 13 with 3 cases detected. • Influenza B was the second most commonly detected virus with 7.1% of all specimens tested being positive for influenza B. Influenza B cases peaked in week 12 with 4 cases detected. • Influenza A is the third most common respiratory virus representing 4.7% of all specimens tested. It peaked in week 13 with 2 cases detected.
