Figure 1 is a bar chart showing the number of cases of Salmonella Typhimurium phage type 3 infection in Australia by week of onset (weeks 27 to 47 covering the period July to November 2012) and jurisdiction (Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia). The number of cases peaked at weeks 35 and 39 with 8 and 6 cases, respectively. The chart shows that OzFoodNet commenced a multi-jurisdictional outbreak investigation in week 40 when the first food recall occurred. A second recall began in week 41 and Food Standards Australia New Zealand issued a media release in week 43. Case numbers dropped to one case per week from week 42.
