Figure 1 is a line graph depicting the temporal change in the number of notifications of suspected prion disease cases that are added to the CJD Registry, by year (1997-2014) and jurisdiction (ACT, NSW, NT, etc). Generally, the number of suspected case notifications by state and territory align with population size with some annual fluctuations. The annual number of nation-wide suspect case notifications in 2014 was higher than the figures observed in 2012 and 2013, notifcations were 9% lower compared with the long-term average for the years 1993 to 2014. There was an increase in the number of suspected case notifications in New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania and Victoria compared to 2012 and 2013, returning to previously observed levels. With the exception of Western Australia, the remaining states and territories were unchanged from the previous year. Western Australia shows a sustained decrease in notifications.
