This figure shows the number of notified cases of invasive pneumococcal disease  in Australia in 2009 and 2010, by month and age group.  In both 2009 and 2010 the number of cases of invasive pneumococcal disease was greatest in the winter months with number of notifications peaking in July. The seasonal effect was more evident in cases aged 5 years and over than in younger children.
