Figure 1 is a line chart showing the age standardised rate for notifiable sexually transmissible infections in NSW from year 2000 until 2009. Chlamydia was the most commonly notified STI with rates higher than gonorrhoea, HIV and infectious syphilis. The largest increase in rates was for Chlamydia where it increased from 53.7 to 215.4 per 100,000 population from 2000 until 2009. During the same period, rate of infectious syphilis increased from 1.2 to 7.4 per 100,000 population whilst rates of gonorrhoea and HIV have remained stable.
