Figure 1 is a map of the coastline of New South Wales, Australia. The Spanish mackerel implicated in the three ciguatera fish poisoning outbreaks described in this manuscript were caught near Evans Head (2014), Scotts Head (2014) and Southwest Rocks (2015). These locations are shown along the coastline. Brunswick Heads is also noted on the map, as prior to 2014, only one other outbreak (2002) has been linked to fish caught in NSW waters. Latitude 35 °S is considered as the southern boundary for ciguatera fish poisoning. This latitude is noted on the map also. While the locations of the illness outbreaks in this manuscript are within this boundary, these outbreaks are the southernmost confirmed cases of ciguatera fish poisoning in Australia.
