This figure presents a trend analysis of the rates of hospitalisation with confirmed influenza
A(H1N1)pdm09 in 2009 and the average annual rates of hospital separations for all
diagnoses ICD-10-AM coded J09-J11 for the period 2004 to 2008 by age group. Similar to
previous seasonal influenza epidemics, hospitalisation rates associated with pandemic
influenza in 2009 remained highest among children aged less than 5 years, however, in
contrast to previous seasons, hospitalisation in 2009 was also more common among those
aged 50-59 years and lower amongst those aged 75 years and over.
