Figure 24: Risk factors^ reported for confirmed influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 cases with enhanced surveillance data (n=8,838), Australia*, 2009, by proportion# and pandemic phase This figure presents the risk factors reported for confirmed influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 cases with enhanced surveillance data during 2009. The most common reported underlying medical condition reported was chronic respiratory conditions and diabetes mellitus. During the PROTECT phase the proportion of cases with an underlying medical condition increased substantially to represent half of the confirmed cases during this phase, however given the known susceptibility and focus of case ascertainment towards those at risk populations, the increased proportion of cases reported during this phase is not unexpected.
